since my clients are always asking me for advice on what to wear, i teamed up with my super-fashionable friend, Crystal, to share a couple of style inspiration boards to keep in mind for your next photo session with me. i completely trust her fashion sense and hope you can get some great ideas from these!
Hi everyone! I’m Crystal from heycoobabe.com and I am really excited to be guest-posting on Helen’s blog, especially since I get to write about one of my favorite topics: Clothes! Today we are talking about what to wear when getting professional pictures taken. I know it can be tricky planning out the perfect ensembles, so I’ve put together a couple of outfit collections to inspire you for your next family photo op. The goal is to look put together and coordinated but not too matchy-matchy. A great theme to work with is neutrals. For my first collection, I’ve mixed in different textures (denim, leather, metallics, wood, breezy cotton, crochet) that maintain a similar feel. Whether laid-back or nice-casual, a neutral theme looks great in all seasons and against any backdrop.

Girl: scarf, dress, shoes // Boy: shirt, pants, shoes

For my next collection, I went a little bolder with pops of color. When using bright colors, it can be helpful to get inspiration from an item of clothing with colors and a print you love. Then, choose clothing items that go with the colors in the print. In this collection, the color palette was inspired by the man’s shirt. Bright coral, yellow, and blue are great colors for Spring especially when anchored with neutrals like light grey and beige….or greige as I like to call it :).  What’s most important is that the colors and patterns play off of each other while remaining balanced so that when you step back to look at the big picture it all seems to “work.”

I hope some of these tips help you to create the perfect look for your next family photo session!
