this was my sons’ second annual visit to sandbridge, and we stayed in the same house as the previous year. landon, my four (and a half) year old, remembered everything about our house including which was his room! lukey, my two year old, maniac child, may not have had any concrete memories of sandbridge 2012, but he sure knew of “sanbwidge” from listening to landon excitedly plan this trip since the day we came home last year. 🙂
my mom joined us this time, which was a HUGE help and TONS of fun. since we have basically the same sense of humor, she and i laughed constantly. we arrived september 7th, which is when most folks were heading home after staying there over labor day week. it turned out to be the most perfect timing in every way! we essentially had the beach to ourselves the whole trip. the weather was warm and mild, and it didn’t rain a single time! we spent our days playing in the sand, splashing in the ocean, catching tiny sand crabs, flying our kite, searching for shells/various marine creatures, frequenting the local (awesome) petting zoo, eating crabs, and fishing.
my grandmother came to visit us for a night, and we had some friends stop by to play at the beach too! among the highlights of the trip for landon are, in no particular order: finding a live hermit crab on the beach, going kayaking with mama where we saw a cottonmouth snake, finding a starfish (!!!), hugging chickens, boogie boarding, putting the blue crabs in the pot to boil, and the awesome virginia aquarium where we petted sting rays. landon also keeps bragging to people randomly that “mama chucked 15 oysters!” um, sweetie. mama SHUCKED the oysters. Fifty of them. but that’s all just semantics, i guess.
sunset and sunrise at sandbridge is a photographer’s paradise. i snapped hundreds of photos during our vacay with my iphone, but i’m so glad i also brought a decent DSLR with some nice glass to preserve our memories. this blog post contains a good mix of phone pics and images from my DSLR. if any of my clients are going on an amazingly fabulous vacation and they want a photojournalistic documentation of it… feel free to hire me to join! 🙂 🙂
oh yea. at the end of our super-trafficy, whiny, tired, drive home we arrived at a fortress. literally. we were locked out and it took a locksmith over two hours to break in! oh well. small price to pay for unforgettable memories that will last a lifetime!
i can still hear the sound of cicadas singing against the crashing waves, feel the salty breeze and smell that beachy pine air…
Amazing photo's!!
Celebrity appearance 😉 Love it!
